Proudly South African seeks to influence local procurement in the public and private sectors, to increase local production and to influence consumers to buy local in order to stimulate job creation.

To be eligible for Proudly South African membership, prospective members must demonstrate that at least 50% of the cost of production or rendering the service occurred in South Africa. In the event of imports, prospective members are required to prove a "substantial transformation" of any imported material.

The product or service must be of a proven high quality to qualify the business for Proudly South African membership. Where applicable, the product or service should be certified by industry standards such as ISO or be accredited with a certificate of quality from other recognised and accredited institutions.

The company must comply with the current labour legislation and adhere to fair labour practices.

The business seeking Proudly South African membership must comply with environmental legislature and adhere to production processes that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. This shall include recycling methods, waste management, carbon footprint reduction, etc.
